Mihailo M. Petković
Exhibit was open by Zoran Rakić, historian of arts from Belgrade.
Mihailo Petković was born in 1958 in Belgrade.
Faculity of fine arts he extolled in 1979 and finished in 1984 in
class of professor Živojina Turinski.
Magistrate studies he finished in 1986, at she same professor’s
class.
He made his exibits since 1982.
He is member of ULUS since 1985.
He has his exibits
on many group and individual exibits
in country
and abroad.
His paintings are exposed in collections
On National Museum in
Belgrade,
Museum Of Modern Arts in Belgrade,
in gallery and private
collections.
He live and works in Belgrade.

Since student’s days,
when he got artistic spiders
in a class of professor Živojin Turinski, one of
most famous painters of eformel in Serbia,
Mihailo Petković determines for fine art’s expression
based on attainments of lyric abstract, art of enformel.
and that his destination, going through
some kind of changes, he remained faithful
until nowadays.
That proofs a latest cycle of his paintings
Which were mostly made during 2004.
These realizations, deeply dramatic in its expression,
Sited up composition, disturbed structure
And tingling colorful relations, recovery continuity
With previous author’s cycles, furthermore
Represents special resume of his previous
Pretensions and indicate on nucleus of
One new phase in his opus. On these ones is
most of all, lifted previously established
Architecture and tissue and color, major
Components of Petkovic’s artistic expression,
It’s given unimagined motion and freedom.
The result of that act is a series of
Expressive, almost baroque wealthy
And moved paintings which are as an effect of
Long-standing exertions, shows
Full artistic maturity of its creator.
To realize more powerful and colorful expressions
Of red, orange, blue and yellow colors,
Daring facing with black and accents of white,
And to preserve its proximity and dynamics,
Mihailo Petkovic with free and spontaneous
Moves puts on Fon of quiet ocher and dirt brown
Colors.
As a kind of counterpoint of disturbance and
Irrepressible moving of colorful masses,
author enters in his paintings symbols of
letters and numbers which in this complex had
pure artistic and symbolic meaning.
On picture plan, those letters and numeric symbols
Sometimes hardly readable, drawed with graphite pencil,
almost with children’s handwriting,
sometimes high stylized, and pointed with
white and ocher with almost enamel brightness
enters in this moved, disturbed complexes
element of rational and some of stability of
geometric and logic structures.
On symbolic level, they signify relics of sense
Or at least passion for him which are confronted
Or resists, with universal whirl of colors and element.
In that way is within composition effectuated
Powerful and impressive contrast between
Spontaneous and deeply mindful.
Special attention is dedicated, like in previous works,
To the bases which is relief structure from colorist experiences
Represents main factor of expressivity in Petković’s paintings.
Author builds that expressivity, literarily,
layer by layer,
Applying on panel pieces of jute or tent
Which tough and expressive textures and warned- out
More figured with rope whit which they are
Sewing or stiffed with base.
Around those peaces of panel,
They are concentrated regularly
more pastoral layers of colors
Which these surfaces makes emotional,
dramatic and
Energetic focuses of whole picture,
Places witch overtakes shadows and lighten parties
And where are borders to each other gaps
of darkness and light.
Going to lower registers, this emotional charge
Gradually becalm, so surfaces of lower zones of the painting
Are fulfilled with blaze of worm ocher
With some accent of red and white.
In the same time, harsh and high esthetic
Spontaneous and deeply emotional but builded
On a careful methodical procedure and analysis,
Grounded in tradition but deeply modern and, finally,
Always and without residua determinate
for spheres of pure fine art,
Paintings of Mihailo Petković, this time too, shows persistence and
Truly dedication to creative work
And artistic maturity of its creator.
